I-FIM innovations – Acoerela at NUS Venture showcase with Arial Lee (Operations Manager, Acoerela) and Bay Sie Lim (CEO, Acoerela)

I-FIM was invited on Monday 18th March 2024, to be part of NUS Venture showcase organised by NUS Enterprise in NUS Singapore campus. This marquee event was graced by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) through Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, besides NUS management led by President Prof. Tan Eng Chye. Two of I-FIM’s innovations were showcased on the day with dedicated booths on display, namely FruitGuard and Acoerela.

These innovations are based on pioneering research work undertaken by Prof. Guillermo Bazan and his research team.

FruitGuard is an early-stage innovation offering tailored protection for various tropical fruits across different regions of the world.

Acoerela, a spin-off company from the Bazan lab, offers cutting edge dye technology for exosome detection, in a completely novel way. Led by CEO, Bay Sie Lim, Acoerela, is poised to expand into global markets and has proven global clientele with additional funding secured.

These innovations were met with keen interest for their game changing potential from various quarters, including Deputy PM’s office. A host of VCs, venture builders, potential clients and partners in attendance, were keen to collaborate further.

The day was marked with significant announcement of $20m in additional venture funding and incentives by NUS, to further boost commercialisation and venture creation. Deeptech remains an important strategic asset, to address some of the pressing societal challenges as well as unfurl new opportunities possible through cutting edge technology. I-FIM, is enabling creation of path breaking Deeptech innovations based on the world class research underway in material science and AI. The announcements will provide further impetus to support effective commercialisation and contribute significantly for Singapore to lead the way in this regard.
