Prof Liu Bin; Assoc Prof Lu Jiong and Asst Prof Li Qianxiao received the nation’s top honours for their research excellence and contributions to Singapore’s science and technology
On 27 September 2024, five esteemed professors from the National University of Singapore (NUS), including key researchers from the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials (I-FIM), were recognised for their groundbreaking research at the President’s Science and Technology Awards (PSTA), the nation’s highest honour for scientists and engineers.
Among the winners were Assistant Professor Li Qianxiao, Associate Professor Lu Jiong, and Professor Liu Bin. Assistant Professor Li Qianxiao, from the Department of Mathematics and a Principal Investigator at I-FIM, was awarded the Young Scientist Award (YSA) for his pioneering work in deep learning and its mathematical foundations. His research has revolutionised the understanding of neural networks and their applications in AI.
Associate Professor Lu Jiong, a researcher from the Department of Chemistry and I-FIM, was also honoured with the YSA for his innovations in sustainable catalysts that promise to reduce environmental impact in chemical manufacturing processes.
Professor Liu Bin, Tan Chin Tuan Centennial Professor, received the prestigious President’s Science Award for her contributions to the field of organic functional materials, particularly in the development of phosphorescent materials with wide-ranging applications.
These awards highlight the exceptional talent and dedication of NUS and I-FIM professors in advancing Singapore’s position as a leader in science and technology.
