Art and the Machine: Music and the uses of AI


ABSTRACT:
AI has revolutionised many sectors, including music. Its uses vary from melody generation to automation of music production. This talk explores applications of AI in music and considers existing solutions and their products. Moreover, it reviews various problems found in music that AI attempts to tackle, examines different representations of music for AI-algorithms, lists some popular neural network architectures used in the field, and demonstrates example applications in action. And of course, it includes loads of AI-generated music for listening.

BIOGRAPHY:
Thomas Arvanitidis is an audio Machine Learning and Digital Signal Processing scientist. He currently works as a Senior ML scientist for Sonos, the smart speaker, multi-room audio solutions company. Previously, he worked as a research scientist and team leader for the research centre of MUSIC Tribe in the UK, the holding company of brands such as Midas Consoles, Tannoy speakers, and Behringer. He has 12 years of experience in audio and music, including his academic path.
