From 8 to 11 July 2025, the NUS Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials (I-FIM) led the successful organisation of the first AI4X Conference, a groundbreaking global gathering focused on accelerating scientific discovery through Artificial Intelligence (AI). Held at NUS University Town, the conference brought together nearly 600 researchers, innovators, and industry leaders from around the world.
Jointly organised with the National Research Foundation Singapore (NRF), Ministry of Education (MOE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and DSO National Laboratories, the event focused on how AI is transforming disciplines such as materials science, medicine, climate modelling, and mathematics.
AI4X 2025 featured:
- 27 keynote talks
- 16 thematic sessions
- Over 100 poster presentations
- More than 80 speakers from academia, startups, and global research labs
Topics ranged from generative AI in healthcare, to physics-informed AI for climate prediction, and AI infrastructure for scientific research.
“AI is reshaping how science is done,” said Prof. Sir Konstantin Novoselov, AI4X Conference Chair and Director of NUS I-FIM. “Through AI4X, we aim to position Singapore and I-FIM as leaders in this global transition by convening top minds to share, debate, and drive progress.”
What’s Next
Plans are underway for AI4X 2026, in collaboration with the Acceleration Consortium at the University of Toronto, with a vision to expand international participation and deepen industry engagement.
